Fortis Healthcare to introduce two new medical facilities in Bangalore

BANGALORE: Fortis Healthcare will add two medical facilities in Bangalore comprising a total of 280 beds. It aims to double in size to 10,000 beds in coming five years, a top executive said.

In Bangalore, India’s largest hospital chain will have a 70-bed facility under the brand Fortis La Femme for the care of mothers and children which should be completed in the next year. It will also expand its existing hospital with a 210-bed cancer-care facility.

“A mix of brownfield and greenfield projects will take us beyond 10,000,” said Malvinder Mohan Singh, executive chairman of Fortis. He declined to share details of investment. Earlier this year, the company announced setting up a 60-bed super-specialty hospital in Ludhiana, thereby helping it take its total bed capacity to 1,000 beds in Punjab.

Delhi-based Fortis’ aggressive expansion mirrors the strategy of other, including Ranjan Pai-led Manipal Group, as companies eye a greater share of the healthcare market. “We have strengthened our balance sheet even further and as a result our net debt/equity ratio is 0.25-0.30. We will not cross 0.5,” Singh said.
