India US sign MOUs for development of health sector


India and United States signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at development of health sectors on 25 June 2015. The agreements include enhanced cooperation in areas like infrastructure development, cancer research, capacity building and development of new diagnostic technologies.

Health and Family Welfare Ministry official said in a statement that B P Sharma, Secretary Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, K Vijay Raghavan, and US Ambassador to India Richard Verma signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) on cancer research and a Letter of Intent on Antimicrobial Resistance Research.

Letter of Intent (Loi) was signed between the ICMR, Department of Biotechnology (MoST) and US’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health and DHHS. It includes developing a better mechanism for antimicrobial resistance and exploring  patterns of AMR in neonatal intensive. It also includes enhancing efforts in developing and validating new diagnostic methods.

While the cooperation under MOU includes controlling diseases due to hazardous elements and chemicals in environment, development of new tool in interest of public health, creating awareness among public for diseases caused by indoor pollution like cooking and prevention of diseases or injury caused at workplace.

These MOU’s are effect of President Obama’s visit to India in January 2015, when both the countries committed to enhance their relationship and work towards public interest.

Ambassador Verma said that the MOU’s depicts strengthening relationship and partnership of both the countries and experts of both the countries are looking forward share their knowledge and expertise for the betterment of mankind.
